The Stove

The Stove Network

Question:

Can the 'arts' make a difference in our communities, can creative practice help bring people into the heart of decision-making for themselves and their environments.

work:

To build community-led development of projects/activity and advocate for localised decision-making in our communities. This is a multi-disciplinary practice working with artists and other creative practitioners, individuals and groups, organisational partners, third sector organisations, local authorities and governing bodies to build relationships that give people a stake in their town under the creative guise of Town Artist (The Stove Network).

about:

The Stove Network (TSN) is a community-led organisation (membership of 500+) that uses the arts and creativity as tools to put local people at the centre of deciding and shaping the future of our town. We run a regular programme of activity that is directed towards creating skills and employment opportunities, empowering disadvantaged communities, building capacity within community groups and redeveloping under-used buildings as community assets. We run a 3 storey former shop unit, right in the heart of the town centre. The Stove building operates as a fully accessible public resource that is open to the general public 6 days a week. Through this we run a programme of community-led events and activity in public spaces around the town and outreach workshops with local community groups in Dumfries.
